It serves as an ideal residential gateway, providing a quiet, inland buffer that remains exceptionally well-connected to the broader Cape Town metropole.

History of Strandvale
The first settlers in the Strand area were French Huguenots, David and Claudina du Buisson. Their loan farm was bounded on the north by the Lourens River, on the east by Philip Morkel's farm, Onverwacht, and on the south by the sea itself. It was known as Vlooibaai. The suburbs of Strandvale, Strand North and Goede Hoop were all originally part of Vlooibaai farm. After David du Buisson died in 1722, his widow remarried; upon the death of her second husband, Vlooibaai was purchased by Olaf de Wet. In 1748, it was bought by Philip Morkel's widow, Catharine Pasman, who left it to her son Willem Morkel, together with the farms Onverwacht and Voorbrug. Thus at this time the Morkel family owned virtually all the land from the sea running from the Lourens River as far north as Morgenster farm and eastwards to the boundaries of the farms de Fortuin and Gustrouw, probably around 4 300 hectares in size - of which present day Strandvale suburb formed a part.
The Strand Aviation Company operated a De Havilland Gypsey Moth (named Miss Strand) in 1929, offering pleasure trips over the sea and town from a landing strip and hanger located on the present day sportfields of Hoerskool Strand. Aerodrome Road was named after this venture. The pilot, Colonel Pat Murdoch, later became a Second World War pilot and was also credited for breaking a record for a solo flight between Cape Town and Londen.
Strandvale was developed by Advocate Broeksma on farmland belonging to the Myburgh family at the end of the 1960's. While early Strand was primarily a collection of coastal holiday plots, the rapid growth of the region in the 1960s and 70s necessitated the creation of dedicated family suburbs further inland - with the suburbs of Strand North (Lochnerhof) and Goede Hoop also experiencing quick development in this period.
Strandvale was established to accommodate the growing number of permanent residents moving away from the seasonal, sand-swept beachfront towards more permanent, spacious housing. The suburb was carefully planned to provide large residential plots, which allowed for the development of the "classic South African family home"—characterized by solid brick-and-mortar construction, expansive gardens, and generous interior living spaces.
Strandvale Lifestyle Offerings
Life in Strandvale is characterized by space and ease. Unlike the high-density living found closer to the ocean, Strandvale provides a traditional suburban environment where children can play in large gardens and residents can enjoy quiet, private outdoor living.
The suburb’s "best of both worlds" appeal lies in its seclusion. While it remains a quiet residential enclave, it is less than a five-minute drive from the beach, allowing residents to enjoy the coastal lifestyle on their own terms. It is a community-focused neighbourhood where evening walks, cycling, and gardening remain popular pastimes. The 4,1 ha Dam Park opposite Strand High is a popular green and walking public space for the residents of Strandvale.
