Kuilsriver Property

Kuilsriver Property History and background

The rural feel that the atmosphere of Kuilsriver offer can be attributed to the fact that the majority of property in the area was originally farmland.  Even though the name Kuilsriver is derived from the meaning: River of Pools, the main attraction was not as glamorous.  Established in the late 17th century, Kuilsriver originated as a pen for cattle (or "kraal" for the local Afrikaans speaking inhabitants).  It was also the staging post for travellers on their way from Cape Town to Stellenbosch.

Kuilsriver was marked by milestone 15 (measured from central Cape Town), and this can still be observed in the entrance hall of the Kuilsriver municipality today.  These milestone marks were of high importance in colonial days. It was a key representation of farmer's travels across the Cape.

What the Kuilsriver Property is like right now

Kuilsriver has expanded tremendously, and today it hosts major manufacturing companies such as Coca-Cola and Nampak.  Even though these huge enterprises found their way into the area, Kuilsriver still characterizes a calm and natural environment (please take note of the cow crossings!).  The CBD is still relatively un-commercialised due to the fact that no major highway or free way runs through the town.  Although easily accessible, the N1, R300 and Bottelary Roads do not form part of the town's infrastructure.

Besides the bucolic ambience residents of Kuilsriver enjoy, they now also benefit from modern living that comes with upmarket shopping centres and superb sporting facilities.  The Kuilsriver golf course is renowned under the entire northern suburbs golfing community.

Types of Kuilsriver Property are available

The greater part of Kuilsriver realty is already established.  The property phenomenon that took place in the neighbouring towns is not that evident here and new developments and sectional title complexes are not as prominent.  Most of the uncultivated land in the area has already been utilized for real estate and therefore did not leave much space for any new development.

For the tourist using Kuilsriver as the gateway to the Winelands, many properties in the area have been refurbished as lodges, guesthouses, bed & breakfasts and self-catering units.  Holiday homes and rental suites are also very popular in the area.

General interest information

The town has a wide variety of quality schools which include two institutions for children with special needs.  The Alta du Toit School (for children with severe intellectual disabilities) introduced the Khanya Project, which helps learners with learning disabilities to get educated in computer technology.   And for children with learning and physical barriers, the Jan Kriel School assists with educational as well as medical programmes.

True to its pastoral history, the Rondevlei Nature Reserve is an attraction not to be missed.   It's any ornithologist's dream!  The town itself is still home to many old church buildings and a theatre that dates back to the 1700's (called The Chicken Coop).

In general, purchasing property in Kuilsriver is always a good idea. Be it for your own enjoyment, or just reaping the rewards of a solid investment.
